Journalistic Interests:
My major interest is using the personal voice, narrative, in reporting and feature writing. My beats have always been outside hard news, areas like food, travel, cultural heritage preservation, all of the arts and arts institutions, including music, books, visual arts and film, sports reporting with a political edge, design and urban planning, pop culture and the life of cities. I have reported extensively on China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, Korea, India, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand as well as written books set in Brazil and the Caribbean and the Chinese worldwide diaspora through food.

I have contributed to video documentaries, written texts for photo books and screenplays.
Bio:
John Krich grew up in New York City, spent most of his life in the San Francisco Bay Area before moving to Asia a decade ago. He was most recently feature writer/food columnist/staff reporter for the Wall St Journal Asia Weekend Journal, was a columnist with the San Francisco Examiner and has contributed regularly to major publications like The New York Times, TIME, Conde Nast Traveler, Vogue, National Geographic Traveler, etc. He is the author of nine books, including the groundbreaking travelogue "Music In Every Room: Around the World In A Bad Mood", and a PEN/Hemingway Award winning novel on the private life of Fidel Castro. He is the recipient of two NEA fellowships and a MAMA award for China coverage.
